The Ecological Society of America awarded Volker Grimm the 2023 Robert Whittaker Distinguished Ecologist Award, which is presented every two years to an outstanding non-American ecologist.
The award statement noted Volker’s contributions to theoretical ecology, ecological modeling and individual-based modeling, management ecology, and education. The award was presented at ESA’s 2023 annual meeting in Portland, Oregon. At that meeting, Volker spoke at the symposium Yes Ecologists Can: Models and Field Studies for 21st Century Problems. The symposium was organized by Steve Railsback and Matthew McCary and features several former students of our modeling courses.
