Our paper on using NetLogo for large models discusses the use of discrete event simulation as a way to make some models faster, simpler, and more natural. We mention the “time” extension to NetLogo as a tool for doing discrete event simulation. This extension also makes it easy to use real dates and times, and time-series inputs. It is now in beta release by the NetLogo development team and can be used in NetLogo 6.1.1. Simply include “time” among the extensions used in your code and NetLogo will install it for you. Documentation is here at the extension’s Github site. Thank you to Uri Wilensky and Jacob Kelter of the NetLogo team, and to Swarm Development Group for partially funding the extension.
